Quinta de Saes Estágio Prolongado is the flagship red from the Saes range, made from a careful selection of the estate's oldest vines, some over 45 years old, located at 500 meters altitude in the northern Dão region. These mature vineyards, planted on granite soils with clay and sandy veins, provide naturally concentrated fruit with structure and finesse.
The wine is a blend of 70% old vine field blend and 30% Touriga Nacional and Alfrocheiro. After destemming, the grapes undergo a long maceration and fermentation in stainless steel vats. Toward the end of fermentation, the wine is transferred to second and third-use French oak barrels, where it ages for 18–24 months. After bottling, it rests for an additional 6 months before release.
In the glass, it displays a bright ruby-garnet color. Aromas of sour cherry, rose petals, wild berries, and black pepper emerge alongside hints of spice and wet stone. On the palate, it is elegant and vibrant, with juicy red fruit, silky tannins, and a firm mineral structure. The finish is long and persistent — a beautifully balanced red with aging potential and expressive Dão character.
