Quinta da Pellada Primus is a white wine that strikes the ideal balance of brightness and depth. Harvested from a single high-altitude parcel at 500 meters, this old-vine field blend is rooted in granitic and quartz-rich soils, capturing the essence of the Dão. Encruzado is the dominant grape, joined by 18+ indigenous varieties that lend complexity and vibrant tension to the wine.
The wine was partially fermented in used barrels, followed by three months of bâtonnage to build texture. It was then aged for nine months on fine lees in concrete eggs and allowed two years of bottle aging before release. No sulfur was added during the maturation, allowing the natural purity of the site and grapes to shine through.
On the nose, Primus reveals notes of exotic fruit, citrus peel, and a subtle reductive edge reminiscent of matchstick and wet stone. The palate is crisp and mineral, yet full of energy and depth, with a long, textured finish that balances precision and richness. It's a wine built to evolve beautifully in the cellar.
